Daily Look: The Trench Coat

It may not be a Burberry (yet), but I love myself a good trench coat.

I still remember buying my first one in high school and being so excited about how sophisticated it made me feel. Flash forward 8 years and I still feel the same way! My style evolution has definitely tweaked since then, but all and all, nothing beats a classic piece.

One of my top tips for buying this style of jacket is to find one that's water resistant. I have been through a lot of rainy spring days in this jacket and can't remember ever feeling cold or like it was completely soaked!

One of my favorite ways to wear trench coats is either with a super classic look that has an edge to it or over a tshirt to make it the focal point of my outfit. In this case, I'm doing anything too fancy, but I styled my favorite faux leather tank top from Calvin Klien.

The leather texture makes everything a little more styled, even though it's a really basic piece!

Even though I'm really jonesing for a pair of pointy toe pumps for my thrifted mom jeans, I think mules are just as fun. While I was definitely never a huge fan of mules, they're actually amazing. If you're one of those people that wants a flat shoe but flats are seemingly uncomfortable - try mules! I'm a convert.

Now that the weather is finally breaking, I cannot wait to style all my spring jackets! I've been waiting so long for this day. Where's that 50 degree weather, Buffalo?

And we're back with another all black outfit...

I may a creature of habit but one of my favorite things to do is to put together unexpected pieces together to create something special. I styled one of my favorite summer rompers and gave it a wintery spin by layering a lacy Victorian blouse underneath!

Beauty Tip: Layer a creamy lipstick before a liquid one if you suffer from drier lips! For a bold lip, I'll use a dark nude from Estee Lauder first then the fun color!  Here I'm wearing a liquid lip from Smashbox in Disorderly.

You'd never know it wasn't one piece, unless you look really closely. We've been seeing the layering trend for a while now with tshirts under slip dresses, which is really what inspired this look. You could easily do the same with spaghetti strap dress! I prefer my rompers just because I find them more comfortable to move around in, especially if you're planning on dancing!

I absolutely hate tights, ever since I was a little girl and they'd come home broken no matter what I did! I find them uncomfortable, so over-the-knee boots are my saving grace! I love how tall these ones are from ASOS. I'm 5'9 so for them to come this high on me is amazing!! But don't fret if you're on the shorter side they also carry a lot of the same style boots in their size ranges including Petite

I hope I've inspired you to play around with your seasonal pieces! There's no need to retire those strappy styles just yet. ;)

Not into layering? Don't worry! I found rompers with the same design inspiration.

I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas! I'll be back with another outfit before 2018. Stick around!

Daily Look: Monochrome

PVCF3674.jpg

Ever since I started dying my hair lighter, I've been addicted to wearing all black. Before blonde, I would've just looked like Wednesday Adams in this outfit. Now? It's a lifestyle.

Feeling like Audrey Hepburn in "Funny Face" with my black tight turtleneck (the best one I found was from Nordstrom Rack recently!) and my thrifted mom jeans, I've pretty much been living in this outfit. So today I'm throwing it back to a good 'ol iPhone photoshoot to show you how I style the same outfit two different ways.

IGKC6969.jpg

I've been really into adding one pop of "color" to my all black outfits to bring in some variation. Because I thrifted these jeans, they're a little big so throwing on a statement belt adds texture and interest and breaks up the look.

While I'm dying for some new pointy stilettos to dress up these jeans, I've been obsessed with my sock boots. They're the comfiest and streamline any outfit!

Investing in a real leather jacket is the best idea I've ever had. I just know this one will last me ages and with black hardware, it literally goes with everything. If you're looking to invest, Wilson Leather at the outlet mall is my favorite. Pretty sure the one I'm wearing was almost $500 off the original price.

PLRV2607.jpg

There's nothing like a giant scarf to add some warmth and an added layer of fun to any outfit. I was feeling the colors in this huge blanket scarf from Forever 21 and loved the way the contrast with my bright ASOS white sneakers.

I honestly feel like I wear the same thing all the time, but having fun with shoes and accessories is the best part about a capsule wardrobe. I'm all about it.

P.S. Can someone please remind me to go do a photo op at Chestnut Ridge before all the trees die? When did that happen...

Til next time!

Black Friday Shopping Guide

Raise your hand if you're gearing up for Black Friday!

I know I am.

We all know that with Black Friday comes the stress of getting all your shopping done at once. I personally do all my present shopping from the comfort of my own home on Cyber Monday and usually save any personal shopping for Black Friday. It's a great time to get those pieces you've been eyeing up for ages or just revamp your winter wardrobe. Us Buffalo gals need all the sweaters and coats we can get (WINTER IS HERE). One of my favorite things to do is to hit the Fashion Outlets of Niagara Falls.

If you've never shopped at the outlets for Black Friday, you've gotta take advantage of their Fashionably Late Thanksgiving shopping Event – the first 100 customers will receive a swag bag with a mystery mall gift card, valued anywhere from $10 to $100, along with special retailer offers, a Fashion Outlets savings pass and more! Early bird shoppers can pick up their swag bag at Mall Entrance 6, near Saks OFF 5th.

The Fashion Outlets of Niagara Falls will be open  on Thanksgiving Day starting at 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. and will reopen on Black Friday from 7 a.m. - 9 p.m.

Throughout my years, I think I've come down with a pretty foolproof system on how to conquer the crazy atmosphere at the mall. These are tips and tricks on how you too can simplify Black Friday shopping!

TIP #1) Style Yourself

If you have a hard time planning outfits, one of the easiest things you can do is to bring the item of clothing from your closet that you've been having a tough time with. Whenever I go sweater shopping, I bring my leather leggings with me to try them on with. The outlet is a solid 35 minutes form home, so there'd be nothing worse than getting home and realizing my purchase didn't match perfectly! You can do this with anything, whether it be a cute holiday top to try skirts on with or a new pair of jeans you're not sure how to style just yet. Throw it in an old shopping bag and bring it with you – this is a total game changer.

TIP #2) Dress Simply

One of the things I miss most about summer time is being able to go shopping in a dress and slip on sandals. In the winter... not so easy. I try to leave my parka in the car throw on something that wont make trying on clothes a hassle. My go-to lately is a jumpsuit & a smaller jacket that I won't over heat in and mules.

TIP #3) Know What You're Looking For

I like to save Black Friday to look for new staple pieces. In the winter, it's always coats and fun statement outer layers like the vest I styled. Not only will your purchases last a few winters, but you'll also save big on those items you've been eyeing up. I'm still trying to decide if I want the JCrew City Coat in this green color or a neutral - someone help me decide!!

TIP #4) Have a Game Plan

Mall maps exist for a reason! I will go to the farthest end of the mall from where I parked first so that by the time I finish shopping, I'm back to the closest door to my car. So simple right? This is ideal for me, especially being tired after a long day of shopping – yes, running around the mall is exhausting. Last time I was at the outlet, I walked 4 miles!!

I hope these tips help you with your shopping whether it be on Black Friday or any other trip.

Have a happy Thanksgiving!

(I'll probably need a wheel barrel to chauffeur me around the mall after all that stuffing I'm getting ready to eat.)

Summer Sandal Edit

SALE ALERT!!

It was a sad, sad morning when I realized Nine West at the outlet mall was closing. But with every store closure, that means crazy blowout sales. Everything was $15-$20 so get your butt over to the mall before their last day June 25!! There were still so many styles to choose from.

The last few days I've had such good luck with shoes, from finding a style at Target (one of my favorite places for trendy shoes) that I've lusted after forever and the NW sale, I was totally inspired to write today's blog post.

I'm going to go through a few of my favorite summer sandal styles and how I like to wear them!

THE LACE UP BLOCK HEEL

I have been hunting for a pair of sandals like this for almost a year now. I remember first seeing them on a couple British bloggers when Public Desire first had their claim to fame. Thankfully, patience is a virtue. I snagged up a pair at Target with a lower heel that's perfect for everyday. I love anything that goes up the ankle since I think it really elongates the leg rather than cutting it off with a normal ankle strap.

THE CLASSIC BLOCK HEEL

Now, for summertime, I always try and make it my goal to find a bold pair of this style. Yes, I know that defeats the perfect of "classic" but my bold just happens to be a pair that's a denim material. I think you can't go wrong with a block heel sandal. Not only are you getting comfort, you're getting a wearable look that won't get dated and will last from season to season! My denim ones were only $20 from today's sale so I'm a happy camper! There are so many different heel heights in this style of sandal, too. I usually find that 2-2.5" are best for all day/everyday wear.

THE EVERYDAY FLAT

shoes.jpg

So, while block heels are without a doubt my summer favorites, I will say I have so much fun with flat sandals. I find that this is such an easy way to change up a look. Whether you go with a gladiator style for a more boho look or embellishment to dress up an outfit, there are so many options out there. I usually wear mine to pieces by the end of summer, so I was super excited to add a pair to my collection!

That's all I have for you today! Now, get to shopping. ;)

What to Wear: Amusment Parks

This post is sponsored by Pepsi and Darien Lake Theme Park Resort. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

One of my favorite things to do in the summer time is to take a trip to an amusement park. From being eight years old begging my dad to let me get on the Viper alone, I've always been a ride junkie. The higher the roller coaster the better! Thanks to Pepsi and Darien Lake I'll be spending Memorial Day at the park with friends and spending the night in one of their on-site cabins.

What better way to say hello to summer?

Darien Lake is known for always having awesome ways to save. This season you can visit http://www.darienlake.com/pepsi and use code PEPSI to redeem a free deal on buy-one-get-one tickets!

I always try and find a way to make my outfits picture ready when I'm doing something fun. I want to be ready for those Instagrams! Throughout my many summers of visiting Darien Lake and other amusement parks, I've figured out some ride-proof, comfortable but cute looks to get you through a long day of fun at the park.

THE ROMPER

IMG_2565.JPG

If you've been shopping recently, you know that this is the summer of rompers. There are so many different options out there!  Layer a jacket and your favorite sneakers or slip ons for an effortless but comfortable look that's perfect for walking around all day!

KEEPING IT CLASSIC

All you need for this look is your favorite pair of jeans and your comfiest pair of sandals. I find that sometimes it's easier for me to wear a pair of sandals instead of sneakers when I'm at an amusement park. I have this irrational fear of losing a shoe while on a ride! So if I have the option to take them off I definitely will. My Birkenstocks have been my tried and true comfy sandals but you can different sandals made for walkin' lots of places!

WATERPARKS

Now it might be too cold to be at the waterparks when I'm at Darien Lake but they are seriously so much fun, especially on a steamy 80-degree day. If you're planning on going to the waterpark later in the day but want to start on the rides first, my suggestion is to hop on the one piece bathing suit bandwagon and wear one with a pair of shorts. You'll be ready to take on the Tornado in Splashtown! Bring an extra top and a pair of flip flops and you'll be set.

Talking trends: Off the shoulder Pt. II

So now that I finally feel like the dust has settled and I'm finally getting used to my new schedule, here I am with my part 2 of Talking Trends!

Being that it's Sunday, I felt that this would be the perfect day for an outfit post. Every Sunday I tend to go through my closet and figure out my outfits for the week, so hopefully, this look can serve as some inspiration.

I am a creature of habit, and as you saw in my last Talking Trends, I stick with all black because I know it's a classic look. But for this one, I had a little more fun.

I went with a colorful flat shoe to break up the blue monochromatic tones. If I hadn't been shooting in the middle of a field (props to Ryan Kell aka Seek Axiom for making me be adventurous) I would've styled this with a pair of block heels.

One of my favorite ways to wear boyfriend jeans is with a heel! It adds a touch of girliness and lengthens your leg which can sometimes get lost in the baggier silhouette.

I love all these off the shoulder styles that are playing into the poplin trend. There's nothing like a well-structured shirt to make you feel a little more sophisticated. This one from Forever 21 is a little bit thinner making it super lightweight for the summer months coming up!

MY PICKS

I love the "cold shoulder" look simply because you can still wear a regular bra. Let's be real ladies, no one likes strapless bras! You still get to play into the trend while being a little more comfortable.

Talking trends: Off the shoulder Pt. I

Today, I'm talking trends.

One of my favorite trends actually... the off the shoulder top. I'm not one to buy into what's "in" very easily since I do tend to have a more minimalist style, but for this, I'm on the bandwagon.

Super happy to say today's post is a local one! With some awesome photography from Ryan Kell (a.k.a. Seek Axiom) and this top from local contemporary clothing brand Once and For All Clothing, I brought you a go-to nighttime look for styling up this trend.

Molly Hoeltke Worth, the designer behind Once and For All, is one of the coolest women I've met. A total powerhouse. All the pieces are cut and sewn locally or at two other factories in the U.S. which I think is amazing. I don't think I've ever owned a piece of clothing that was made with so much care!

As we all know, I'm into the idea of capsule wardrobe where you invest in high quality pieces you love and can be styled in different ways. I can honestly say brand this is worth investing in. Whenever nice enough weather hits where I don't need to wear a jacket, the "NYA II" linen off the shoulder top makes an appearance in once of my outfits.

IMG_1230.JPG

I'm old school in the sense that I find something as simple as showing off your shoulders can add some effortless sexiness to a look. Since my legs need some lunges before summertime, this has been my favorite way to still feel really powerful on a night out.

IMG_1227.JPG

I tried on a medium and a large in this top but because I am a little bit more broad shouldered and have a large bust I went with the bigger size. I know this is going to be a summer staple for me. I'm so tempted to get it in white!  If you're in the area, you can find OAFA Clothing is at Modern Nostalgia and Anna Grace boutiques.

Make sure to follow @seekaxiom on Instagram to get your daily dose of sick photos.

Stay tuned for my daytime look featuring my trusty boyfriend jeans, coming soon!

Daily Look: Chunky cardigan

If there's one thing to know about me it's that I have an addiction to cozy sweaters. Pullovers, longline cardigans, thin dusters - you name it, I have it. I love sweaters because I wear them all year and I especially love styling them for spring/summer.

This sweater is one of my favorites simply because it's so soft. I got the quite the bargain during the Zara winter blowout online a few months back and I'm so happy it's part of my collection.

976C8FF6-2CA7-4838-B1B0-DED0BFC39C8B.jpg

Styled up with my some high waisted shiny leggings big sunglasses and these killer heels (literally killer, I switched to espadrilles halfway through my day), I was ready for a packed schedule of running around to meetings and coffee dates.

I don't know if it's just me, but unless I have a shoot planned, most people don't see what I wear on a daily basis (trying to get better at Instagram stories). Thankfully, my best friend lives around the corner and has a new camera he likes to play with.

So shoutout to Brett Andersen capturing this daily look in just 10 minutes in between my busy day!

Go follow him @fouryearbrett

MY TOP PICKS: COZY CARDIGANS

That's it for today! May your week be full of cute outfits & good vibes.

Daily Look: Around town

Greetings from Charlotte, NC.

What meant to be a five-day visit ended up a prolonged stay due to a mishap with my car but I can honestly say, I'm so happy I had to stay.

I love being able to explore a new city. I've had great food, been in great company (love you babe) and even spent a few days in Florida. These are the perks of being a freelancer.

One challenge I've been able to conquer is living out of the same suitcase for this long. I will say, it was frustrating at first. But I've realized now more than ever, my capsule wardrobe is intact. With a few fun pieces like my felt hat and overpacking my shoe options, I've battled the challenge successfully!

This look has become a bit of a uniform for me. Plus there's nothing like a hat to disguise a bad hair day.

This look really is a compliation of all of my favorite things- black jeans, my Sam Edleman sandals which might've been my best Nordstrom Rack find, a black bralette, crispness from a white top and my floppy hat.

I'm happy to say the boyfriend is finally on board with the hat! He was wary at first ;).

Later on this evening, we wanted to walk off all the southern food we'd devoured at Tupelo Honey Cafe and took a ride to Romare Bearden Park.  This park is in the middle of the city and allows for such cool pictures. Dave, his camera and I had a little bit of fun.

I will definitely miss it here when I get home. I swear I was a Southern belle in another life.
