What's better than a boutique on Elmwood? A boutique with a story.
Half & Half was always a staple of Elmwood Village's shopping scene. Now with new owners, and a beautifully renovated space, it's definitely going to become a new hotspot.
The mother/daughter Bronstein team decided to purchase the space from family friends Debbie & Bill Sidel who were the previous owners of Half & Half.
Upon walking in, you're greeted by an organic space, with white stained reclaimed wood from the Bronsteins' horse farm, and racks of airy clothing.
Kilby Bronstein actually worked at the previous Half & Half in high school and her early years of college. She grew up going to the store to shop with her mom saying it was always a family space. Last year after Kilby's college graduation, the Bronsteins got the call from Debbie Sidel and had the option to buy Half & Half.
Kilby had been planning to move to New York City. Then she spent one summer in Buffalo and decided she never wanted to leave. "There are so many amazing things going on in Buffalo," she said, "why bother going to New York when I could be a part of something really cool here."
WHAT'S TO COME
The Bronsteins ended up purchasing the store and the space next door. "We really want to make this part of Elmwood really fun and vivacious," Kilby said. "This is the bridge of Elmwood." Eventually, they will pave around back and create a mini parking lot with 8 spaces (hooray!) and hope to partner wth someone to do something really fun with the other space. The current plan? A blowout bar to make Half & Half a one stop shop for both pampering and shopping.
There are also plans to make Half & Half an event location to bring an even bigger sense of community to the Elmwood Village. Once a month, they'll have a trainer come in to do body weight training, which is perfect with all the workout lines coming in. They'll also have girl's nights where you can plan an event with your friends and have a cocktail shopping party, and eventually create a men's night as well. They also plan to have full moon parties, and though I've never heard that before, Kilby said they'll have a big party whenever there's a full moon.
"We want to make this a really fun place to be."
CLOTHES & MORE
With trips to LA to choose pieces from different lines for the store, a way to make Half & Half special was the decision to private label.
Some of the other lines are: Alo yoga, Tularosa, Scotch + Soda, Roberta Freymann, Moon River, Lover + Friends, United by Blue, Hippy Tree, Bird Dog Bay, and Wool Rich.
"Scotch + Soda is a really cool. They're out of Amsterdam and they make really beautiful stuff. A little funkier, a little edgier, and they always have a trinket on it like a necklace or a pin."
Half & Half's slogan is "passionately chosen" rightfully so. Between using local contractors and businesses to create such a beautiful space, to wanting to be a hub for events in the Elmwood Village, to the Bronsteins being family friends with the
